How Evans Fireplaces can help with increased energy prices

The energy crisis is hugely affecting our bills and as the energy cap is only extended until June 2023, all it seems to be doing is pushing the problem further down the year.  In fact, according to Ofgem (the energy regulator for Great Britain) we aren’t finished yet, with unprecedented increases still to come. In fact, Martin Lewis the ‘Money Saving Expert’ warns ‘This “winter” could last for years’.

If you are thinking about switching to an alternative heating source, well now is the right time to do it.  We are seeing a resurgence in the most traditional ways of heating a home. Ie log burning fireplaces.  Money martin predicts that having a wood burning fireplace in your home could in some cases save you almost £3000 per year.

If you are thinking about getting a wood burning fireplace, Evans Fireplaces in Syston offer the best value for money.  The traditional stove is becoming increasingly popular. With many varieties available, this timeless traditional home heating method can now integrate nicely with today’s modern interior.  Our showroom hosts the different types available, whether it’s an authentic free-standing wood-burning stove, or a modern inset electric stove. There are several things to consider when buying a log burner and we have laid them out below.

Size of room and Chimney Flue

The size of the room will effect the size of the stove you want in place and also the heat output.  Most wood-burning stoves manufacturers tend to start their range with a 4kW to 5kW outputs, which in most cases should be suitable for a normal living room 5x4m.

If you are lucky enough to have a chimney already with your house then getting a log burner should be a relatively easy replacement and fit.  However, for those who do not have a chimney flue then it does not necessarily mean you cannot have a log burner installed in your house.  Luckily for those living in modern homes, you do not need a chimney to install a wood burning stove. However, it may require more work to fit one than in an existing chimney. This is because you will need to fit a twin wall flue system through the roof or wall of your building. Nevertheless, it is still a reasonably simple and cost-effective way to enjoy to benefits of a log burner in a home with no chimney!

Ongoing Maintenance + storage

Log burners are very low maintenance pieces of equipment.  With a log burning fireplace, you will need to ensure that your chimney flue is swept at least once a year by a professional chimney sweep.  This is to make sure that the flue is kept clear and there is no build up of ash which will result in a ashy smell throughout the house, this is carbon monoxide.  In addition, you will need to make sure you have enough space for storing logs within the parameters of your home.  In order for your wood to burn correctly within the log burner, you want to make sure your wood is kept dry not wet or damp.

Price

Like with anything, cheap is not always the best.  At Evans we specialise in providing the best value for money fireplaces.  It is also good to point out that adding a fireplace to your room can add value to your property.  It is best to set your budget early to know how much money you have to work with, and which products fit your specified budget and brief. You may also need to factor in and preparation to walls or chimney breasts depending on your requirements.

At Evans, we take the stress away from you when installing a new log burning fireplace.  We provide the end to end solution so you don’t need to waste your time dealing with different tradesmen when fitting your fireplace.  Many of our competitors do not offer the same level of service from quotation, preparation, installation and after care that Evans offers.  This is why we are Leicestershire’s best fireplace providers.

Time of Year to Install

Most people only really start thinking about their heating during the Autmmn and winter months.  Whilst they don’t need to worry about heating during the summer months, this is actually the optimum time of the year to think about your heating.  Waiting until the Autumn or Winter is too late.  During the summer months we have much fewer installations and so waiting times are much shorter.  Beat the winter rush, our team have much more time to help you select the right fireplace you want with any customisations you require.
