Woodburning stoves are great for if you only want to burn wood, for example if you have a log store and have access to a lot of wood, but aren’t suitable for coals which allow you to keep the fire burning for hours without refuelling. Or if you don’t intend on using the stove as your main source of heating your home and it’s just for short bursts of heat.
Remember you can almost always turn a woodburning stove into a multifuel one with a kit from the manufacturer.
Inside a Woodburning Stove:

- Here is the inside of a woodburning stove
- No grate, no ashpan
- This is because wood doesn’t need air underneath it to burn efficiently and creates less ash than coals
- The base may be made from metal or firebricks
- You should clean this out every few weeks or so, depending on how much wood you burn
